维基百科的规则和最佳实践有两类文件规定：

方针

方针记述着广为接受，每个维基百科编者通常都应当应当遵循的规则或标准。

• 方针订立指引，定义方针与指引。方针

指引

指引是由维基百科编者一致支持的一套最佳做法。编者应努力遵循指引，尽管最好依常识加以处理。偶尔也会遇到例外。命名常规被认为是指引。

基本

五大支柱

五大支柱是维基百科的众则之本：

• 维基百科是一部“百科全书”。
• 维基百科采用中立观点。
• 维基百科是版权开放的。
• 维基人以礼相待、相互尊重。
• 维基百科不墨守成规。

完整列表

大字的链接为适用于整个维基百科的广泛、基本的方针和指引。 普通字号的链接是一般范围，但可能适用于更具体情况的方针和指引。 小字的链接是针对维基百科上某一学科领域或工艺的方针和指引。
